Last June 20, 2017, in accordance to the dengue prevention and control campaign of the Department of Health, Department of Education and the Department of Pasay City’s sanitation office, Jose Rizal Elementary School has shown support in conducting a Region-wide Synchronized clean up to eliminate dengue and other pests in the campus. These actions were all established to increase global concerns in safeguarding and protecting the environment from unwanted diseases. The day started out by gathering all grade 6 students in the covered court area along with their respective advisers. Further instructions and assignments were then given to each section. These sections were asked to clean all the nook and crannies of the campus. Stake holders like parents and barangay officials were all ready to help out as well. Specifically, pergolas, fish ponds, gardens and back of buildings were cleaned. Pots and stagnant waters were drained and dried leaves and trash were swept and kept in black garbage bags. It was an informative and fruitful event just because some teachers were able to discover that the school has not really been fully cleaned during the Brigada Eskwela. This event paved the way to clean everything up the second time around. Once the students were done cleaning, they all went up to their respective classrooms and resumed their classes. Since cleaning was done, fumigation was then conducted last July 5, 2017. The fumigation activity was done in collaboration with the Sanitation office of Pasay City in order to prevent the spread of Dengue and any other unwanted diseases. I must say that these activities were a success so far; no reports of absenteeism from Dengue were reported.
